Hi Scott,
I will be looking forward to your trip to Phoenix in February.
You are correct. I got the Yamaha CVP-407. This comes in a dark Rosewood Finish. The CVP-409 comes in Polished Ebony and Polished Mahogany.
The CVP-407 & 409 share identical sets of Voices, Polyphony, Effects, Accompaniment Styles, Memory, Connectors, 640 x 480 color LCD display and Amplification/Speaker systems.
Both the 407 & 409 have the “Natural Wood” keyboard. The white keys are made of real wood, which imparts a better balance and adds to the realism of playing an acoustic piano.
What sets the 409 apart is the “Synthetic Ivory” keytops over the white keys. This is a thin porous layer of material that absorbs the moisture from sweaty fingers. This offers a non-slip surface for better contact during fast playing.
Yamaha Clavinovas are the ultimate fun musical instruments for the entire family. They even appeal to the not so musically inclined members, when you mirror the display on to a large LCD monitor and have the bouncing ball follow the notes while the red/green LEDs light up over the keys.
What a novel way to introduce someone to learn to play music.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Clavinovas appeal to pros for their pristine audio quality and superb graded hammer action.
What a joy to play on this miracle of modern technology.
I feel I am in heaven!

Tapas, Congratulations on the CVP. It's a fantastic machine and I'm confident you'll love it for many, many years to come. I had the opportunity to play an older model at Sugarloaf Lodge on Sugarloaf Key, Florida many years ago. It was a quiet, Wednesday night, just a few patrons at the restaurant and there was an entertainer playing a CVP that also had a famale vocalist with him. During a break they came over to talk with my wife and I, and naturally the topic of music came up. He asked if I wanted to try the CVP, an offer which I gratefully accepted. It was a joy to play, his vocalist and I did a couple duets, and the few patrons that were still in the restaurant got up and danced. For me, the keys were too much like standard piano keys. I'm so used to the light touch of the PSR and Tyros series that it would be difficult for me to go back to the heavier touch. If you like the feel of real piano keys, the CVP series is definitely the way to go. Good luck, Gary
